Blogging, Punk Rock, and a Middle Finger Whoever Needs It

Just a couple of links here…

On Micro.blog, Alan Jacobs writes about punk rock and the IndieWeb.

Actually, I suppose that is just one link, but Alan links to a couple of other pages, that link to others. You know – the way the World Wide Web is actually supposed to work, and does work, if you get off of social media silos and back on to the real internet?

Alan links to this page by Jim Mitchell called IndieWeb is Punk. I’ve loved this page for a while, but one section really stuck out, the one at the end called “This Is the Counterculture Now.” He’s right, and is that not crazy? At one point the counter culture as it related to computers involved hacking and potential actual criminal behavior. I suppose that might still be considered counter culture, though its most likely just considered crime now. The current situation is this: if you have your own website, where you can write what you want and not be repressed by the algorithm (now we see the violence inherent in the system!), you are a card-carrying counter culture member.

I was at an Aikido seminar this morning, and I’ll be back at it tomorrow morning, so I’m feeling kinda scrappy today and in a very non-Aikido way let me just drop the F bomb and say fuck social media, fuck its fiendish weird techbro dirtbag owners. BUILD YOURSELF A PERSONAL BLOG OR WEBSITE and follow others through RSS or plain old fashioned bookmarks and website checking.

My own personal mild ranting aside, go through the links Alan provides. They are all good.
